Monumental Works

The Children's Angel came about when I was looking with my daughters for a venue to hold my youngest's wedding. One of the places we looked at was nice but gave us the feeling that holding a wedding there would be an intrusion. We didn't know why we felt that way but we did. When the lady who ran the place came back from checking her diary for dates she explained to us that it was primarily a grief counseling centre for people who had lost their children and that she had always wanted to find an angel to put in the garden. To us, this explained why we felt that we would be intruding but the interesting thing that happened was that while we were talking I had this image of an angel with a child come into my mind. Weeks later I still had this image in my head and the only way I felt I could exercise it was to make it. This I did. I envisage that the finished size will be about 100cm tall.'

I had never thought of Tranquility as a memorial piece before but she has been bought twice now for that purpose. Once by a group of teachers at the University of NSW as a memorial to a colleague; and then by a couple to commemorate their daughter because she reminded them of her and they intended to put her ashes under Tranquility in their garden.
